Premier League newcomer at Manchester City
New Manchester City signing Jo (left) with boss Mark Hughes
It took new manager Mark Hughes less than a month to break Manchester City's transfer record, with the 18m purchase of livewire Brazilian striker Jo from Russian side CSKA Moscow.

The man with perhaps the shortest name in Premier League history will make headlines easier to write - and Hughes' job easier to do if he replicates the form he showed with his previous employers.

Banging in 44 goals in 77 games and helping CSKA to four trophies, Joao Alves de Assis Silva is a Brazilian international to boot - and they are usually quite good, especially the forwards.

"He's a big guy, in stature and ability, so I think everybody will enjoy watching him play," said Hughes, who knows a thing or two about frontmen and signed Roque Santa Cruz for Blackburn last summer. "I think this is quite a coup."

Don't expect the 21-year-old to cry off injured when faced with a cold Tuesday night at Middlesbrough either. This samba striker has proved his mettle by braving Russian winters for the last three years.
