Northwich 1-2 Doncaster

Goals from Andy Watson and Justin Jackson secured a victory for promotion-chasing Doncaster at Northwich.

Watson, who latched onto Jackson's perfectly-weighted pass, gave Rovers the lead midway through the first half before Jackson thumped Paul Barnes' cross into the net after 59 minutes.

John Allan hauled his team back into the contest with 15 minutes to spare but despite a flurrry of late chances, Rovers held firm to record their second away win of the season.

But the scoreline belied Northwich's valiant efforts. Val Owen drove a shot wide after five minutes and Greg Rioch's pacy crossing caused problems for Rovers goalkeeper Andy Warrington.

Rovers winger Francis Tierney created the first real chance of the game.

His pinpoint cross was met by Dean Barrick but his snap-shot sailed over the crossbar.

Watson gave Rovers the lead after 26 minutes and as the half drew to a close, Doncaster swept forward and nearly doubled their advantage.

Barnes' cross was blocked by Denny Ingram before Mark Devlin managed to scramble the ball clear from the resulting corner.

Second-half efforts from Chris Royle and Gregg Blundell proved fruitless for Northwich as Doncaster doubled their advantage through Jackson after 59 minutes.

Allan's goal, however, proved no more than a consolation.

Northwich: Gibson, Royle, Ingram, Woodward, Rioch, Norris, Owen, Devlin, Garvey, Blundell, McNiven. Subs: Taylor, Matthews, Sedgemore, Walsh, Allan.

Doncaster: Warrington, Marples, Ryan, Ravenhill, Barrick, Watson, Owen, Foster, Tierney, Jackson, Barnes. Subs: Nelson, Sandwith, Green, Morgan, Shields.
