| Tuesday, 18 February, 2003, 16:42 GMT Westley fails to land Maamria Leigh RMI striker Dino Maamria has rejected a move to Nationwide Conference relegation rivals Stevenage Borough. The two clubs had agreed a fee for Leigh's 13-goal leading scorer, who held talks with Stevenage boss Graham Westley last week. Maamria, 29, has opted to stay at Hilton Park and spearhead Leigh's survival bid.
Leigh boss Mark Petterson said: "Dino is a key member of the Leigh team. "His attitude and approach to the game is excellent. "There's no doubt in my mind that his heart lies with the club and it's great news that he'll be out there scoring goals for us for the rest of the season," Patterson told the Bolton Evening News. Westley is now likely to focus his efforts on trying to sign Rocky Baptiste from former club Farnborough Town. Meanwhile, the Leigh pair of John Robertson and Damien Whitehead have turned down the chance of a loan move to UniBond League side Rossendale United. |
