WI in England 1991: Viv's farewell and a classic TMS commentary

A rare Test win in Jamaica had proved a false dawn for England as they went on to lose in the Caribbean in 1990.

But a sign that the tide might finally be on the turn came when the entertaining 1991 series in England - Viv Richards' last before retirement - finished in a 2-2 draw.

England once again won the one-day series 3-0, but then won the first Test at Headingley by 115 runs, with captain Graham Gooch carrying his bat for 154 not out in the second innings.

Robin Smith, who relished his duels with the Windies fast bowlers, was a centurion as the Lord's Test was drawn, but the tourists battled back to take a 2-1 lead.

Spinner Phil Tufnell's 6-25 forced the Windies to follow on at The Oval - and England won by five wickets.

Meanwhile, Ian Botham was out hit wicket while trying to hurdle the stumps - leading to Brian Johnston and Jonathan Agnew's famous "leg over" commentary on BBC Radio's Test Match Special.
