WI in England 1980: One win decides the series

With Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket having come to an end the previous year, West Indies brought a formidable full strength side to England in 1980.

But the first Test, at Trent Bridge, was the only one to produce a positive result.

Pace bowler Andy Roberts starred with bat and ball for the Windies, taking 5-72 in England's first innings before seeing his side home with the bat in a narrow two-wicket victory after Bob Willis (5-65) had run through the Windies' middle order.

Although the Windies could call on Roberts, Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Colin Croft and a young Malcolm Marshall for pace bowling, the next four Tests were drawn. Desmond Haynes, Viv Richards and captain Clive Lloyd hit centuries for the tourists, but "Big Bird" Garner was man of the series.
