Match Facts

  • This will be the third meeting in European competition between Club Brugge and Marseille, with the French side winning 3-0 at home and 1-0 away in the 1992-93 UEFA Champions League group stage, before later beating Milan 1-0 in the final.

  • Marseille are unbeaten in each of their last four away games against Belgian opposition in European competition, while keeping three clean sheets (W2 D2), since a 4-2 loss at Union Saint-Gilloise in the first round of the 1962-63 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Club Brugge, meanwhile, have already beaten French side Monaco 4-1 at home in this season’s UEFA Champions League league phase.

  • Club Brugge won 4-1 against Kairat on MD7 and will now be aiming to win back-to-back league phase/group stage matches in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since winning their opening three matches of the 2022-23 campaign. The Belgian side could also win three group matches in the same UEFA Champions League season for the third time after 2022-23 and 2024-25 (3 in each).

  • Marseille have lost 12 of their last 14 UEFA Champions League away games (W2), but did win 3-2 in their most recent on MD6 at Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise; they last won back-to-back matches on the road in the competition in November 2010, winning 7-0 vs MSK Zilina and 3-0 vs Spartak Moscow.

  • Club Brugge are averaging 13.0 shots and 4.9 shots on target per UEFA Champions League game this season, their best rates in a single campaign on record (since 2003-04); the Belgian side have scored 12 goals in seven matches in 2025-26, only netting more times in the competition in 2024-25 (13 in 12 games).

  • Only eight teams have spent a lower proportion of their total game time in a losing position than Marseille (20.3%) in the UEFA Champions League this season; however, of the 21 teams to be trailing for less than a third of their match time in 2025-26, OM have suffered the most defeats (4).

  • Club Brugge – currently a point behind the top 24 positions - are aiming to reach the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League in back-to-back campaigns for the first time. It would be their third knockout appearance in the competition (2022-23 and 2024-25), with all other Belgian sides combing for just one appearance prior to this season (KAA Gent in 2015-16).

  • Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi has won each of his three previous managerial meetings with Belgian opposition, beating Union Saint-Gilloise already this season and winning both legs of a UEFA Champions League qualifying tie against KRC Genk with Shakhtar Donetsk in August 2021.

  • Club Brugge’s Hans Vanaken has been directly involved in five goals in the UEFA Champions League this season, including a goal and assist on MD1 vs Monaco and again last time out vs Kairat; it is already the outright most by a player for the club in a single edition of the competition, while he has four goals and two assists in seven appearances against French opposition in the Champions League.

  • Among Marseille players with at least two appearances, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg leads the French team for both line-breaking passes (13.2) and possession won (8.4) per 90 in the UEFA Champions League this season.
