Club Brugge sealed a place in the Champions League play-off round after a routine victory over Marseille.

The win added to Brugge's triumphs against Monaco and Kairat Almaty earlier in the competition to seal a 19th-place finish for the Pro League side.

Defeat for Marseille means Roberto De Zerbi's side crash out of the competition on goal difference.

The French side fell behind after four minutes when goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli palmed Mamadou Diakhon's effort into his own net after a sweeping move from the home side.

Romeo Vermant doubled his side's advantage eight minutes later when he converted Aleksandar Stankovic's cut-back from inside the area.

Stankovic applied the gloss to his side's performance and sealed their place in the play-off round with a finish from close-range 11 minutes from time.

But even with the scoreline at 3-0, Marseille were on course to seal the 12th and final place for the play-offs.

That was until Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin scored a dramatic 98th-minute goal against Real Madrid to earn a 4-2 win for Jose Mourinho's side and ensure they finished the league phase with a superior goal difference to the Ligue 1 club.

Brugge will find out whether they will face Juventus or Atletico Madrid in the play-off round when the draw takes place on Friday.
