Match Facts
Borussia Dortmund and Internazionale have faced each other on six previous occasions in Europe, with the most frequent result being an Inter victory (3 – two wins for Dortmund and one draw).
The last meeting between Borussia Dortmund and Internazionale was a 3-2 victory for the German side in November 2019 – a game that Inter led 2-0 in at half time. This remains the only time that Dortmund have trailed by 2+ goals at half time of a European Cup/UEFA Champions League game and gone on to win, as well as the only time Inter have led by 2+ goals at the break and lost in those competitions.
Borussia Dortmund have hosted Internazionale on three occasions in European competition (W1 D1 L1), with those matches averaging 4.3 goals per game (6 goals for Dortmund, 7 for Inter).
Across their last 21 home UEFA Champions League matches, Borussia Dortmund have lost just once (W13 D7), a 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in December 2024. Manager Niko Kovac remains unbeaten at Signal Iduna Park with them (W3 D3).
Internazionale have lost their last three UEFA Champions League matches, having lost just three of their previous 27 matches (W18 D6 L3). They have never lost four in a row in the European Cup previously.
Since the start of 2022-23, all 11 of Borussia Dortmund’s defeats in the UEFA Champions League have come against sides from Europe’s big-five leagues. In that time, their win ratio against big-five league teams is 41% (P29 W12 D6 L11), compared to 69% against sides from other leagues (P13 W9 D4 L0).
Internazionale won their first four UEFA Champions League games this season but they have lost their last three. Only two teams in Champions League history have won four in a row, then lost four in a row: Anderlecht in 2000-01 and Paris SG between September 2017 and September 2018.
Julian Brandt has been involved in eight goals in his last 14 home UEFA Champions League appearances for Borussia Dortmund (5 goals, 3 assists), while he’s unbeaten in his last 19 at Signal Iduna Park (W12 D7), the longest ever unbeaten run of home games by a Dortmund player in their major European history.
Serhou Guirassy has 12 goals and two assists in just 10 UEFA Champions League appearances at the Signal Iduna Park for Borussia Dortmund, scoring or assisting every 55 minutes. Among players to play 500+ minutes at one venue, only Julián Alvarez at the Etihad (goal or assist every 51 minutes) has a better rate.
Internazionale’s Marcus Thuram is averaging 5.6 shots per 90 minutes in the UEFA Champions League this season, although he hasn’t scored a goal in any of his last five appearances, having 16 shots without success.
