Ever felt like a Zebra?
Posted: Tuesday, 13 April 2004 |
Just the other day I got involved in a conversation blaming the"incomers" on rising prices and lack of housing. I pointed out that I myself was one of the dreaded. To my surprise I was informed that I was "different" because I was Scots". Now having lived abroad or a many a year I've heard this kind of thing before. Colleagues at the time talked of Foriegners taking jobs and getting everything thrown at them. I pointed out then, that I was one of the dreaded, "but your different" they cried, "you're white"!
To my question, does the Zebra ask himself "am I white with black stripes or black with white stripes"? I know how he feels.

A funny thing happened.....

Yes a funny thing did happen.Oh, but you had to be there. Anywho, looked at my last entry not bad but lots of typos etc. Must do better. On the way home the other day I discovered two frogs(could have been toads), had taken up residence in one of the "slow release grit" depots that the council have set up on most of the roads here on Mull. I was worried because having nearly lost an axle in said pothole I was wondering if any tadpoles that may result from this occupation would require the tadpole equivalent of a Hyperbaric(?) chamber to reach the surface. As for the slow release thingymujigs have they been patented yet? There could be gold outthere.....

Greater Spotted Tourist Eagle.

Well, the kiddiewinkles are back in School. Being really good pupils they got the bug that's going round during the holidays and are fit enough to go to school. Now I'm off and I've got the bug!!! I am just now and again an employers dream.
On the way back from work the other day I was allowed the priveledge of following a visitor,to the island, for over 2miles doing 25mph. As much as I would like to, I do refrain from the honking horn/flashing light tactic. However the chap did pull over and when I asked that he should try and use the passing places more often, he apologised profusely. He explained that he thought he had seen an eagle flying above the ridgeline, I told him I knew it was a buzzard.
I did stop myself from saying he should look for the lesser spotted lay-by or even the broad stripped passing pole, both of which are in abudance on the island.
Anywho, all was well and to tell the truth it was a Sunday and no one was really in a hurry.Sill there are times.....

Whiskey Olympics

The music festival is upon us again, and as usual I get the night shift! Must say though it's been a quiet one from my side, thank goodness. After a rash of broken tourists (something to do with gravity on Mull), it's gone quiet.
After the night-shifts it's off to Rabigcity, also known as glesga. I hope I can find my way around, I'm a tad out of practice but it can't be helped. My bosses have decided to let me get more educated, and I hope the skills I'm about to learn never need to be used. Still at least I can throw in a shop at Asda(how sad is that?).
I will unfortunately miss the meeting next week re-little wind farm for Dervaig. I'm hoping that someone will either blogg it or a report will be published... I wouldn't want to miss out!

Moans and groans involving health and what passes for roads on Mull. Oh, and the odd pot-shot at "visiting" drivers.
