The Bug Who Mugged The Pug by Jacob Ap Dafydd
Read by Ryan Early from the BBC Radio Drama Company.
There once was a pug, a marvellous fellow .
He could dance he could paint, was pro on the cello
He would stride through the streets with his chin in the air .
With his long velvet coat and a quiff in his hair,
But his favourite possession, his best thing of all
Was his gold leather bag that he'd won at the ball .
As he'd prance here and there- forest, desert or boulder,
It was always right there, pride of place on his shoulder.
I take you instead to our next leading guy,
With legs- far too many, and a gleam in his eye.
The bug wanted things that were just not his own,
Be jewels or scarves, diamonds or a phone.
Like a magpie he'd look for the sparkly treasure,
Then he'd quite simply take it for his selfish pleasure.
Now the day came about that our marvellous pug,
Was in town the exact same day as the bug,
Though the two hadn't met it was widely known,
That the bug was a man who was best left alone.
So poor Mr pug ended up down a street,
Mr bug was the man who he'd least liked to meet,
Mr bug grabbed it fast, like a pro was this thief,
He took Mr pugs bag, wallet, phone and 'kerchief,
Mr pug stood aghast as the scene did unfold,
He did not like to laugh, scream or to scold.
But what Mr bug failed to quite think out,
Was that when you're so small you don't have as much clout.
As the items fell onto the pavement bug saw,
That he simply could not lift them up from the floor.
Mr pug stooped down and they looked eye to eye,
Then to pug's great surprise the bug started to cry
"Mr pug I am sorry," the little guy sobbed
"I have been a bad bug, I have stolen and robbed,"
"I did not mean to do all those terrible things,
I will bring it all back, all the diamonds and rings,"
"You see the thing is, that I wanted to be,
Like the fine men and women on the street who I see,"
"And I thought that with all of these treasures galore,
I'd be the fine bug everyone would adore,"
"But it seems to appear that somewhere I've gone wrong,
For no one seems to like me for what I've got on,"
Mr pug he was wise, and believed in remorse,
So he said he would help Mr bug "Well, of course!"
So together they took all the loot in a lorry,
Back to every person so bug could say "Sorry!"
And as he said sorry and made his amends,
Mr bug then began to have lots of new friends,
And he never forgot that the pug was the guy,
Who helped him that day when he started to cry,
So to this day I know that the bug and the pug,
Can be found always embraced in a hug.
