Hairy’s Ocean Adventures by Hattie Minto
Read by Ryan Whittle from the BBC Radio Drama Company.
Far, far away, there lives a Yeti called Hairy. Even though Hairy lives on his own, he is very happy.
Hairy's home is a giant teacup that floats on the ocean, bobbing up and down with the waves.
Hairy really enjoys reading and his favourite book is called "Creature Feature."
On one particular day, when Hairy was relaxing with his book, a colossal Sea Monster rose up out of the water and snatched his book away!
Hairy screamed "That is my book" and ran round and round his teacup wondering what had just happened and what to do next.
But then, Hairy had a brilliant idea. He decided to jump in the sea and reason with the Sea Monster to get his book back.
Hairy took a deep breath and then dived into the ocean.
When Hairy found the Sea Monster, it was reading his book, but the book was upside down. "The monster can't read", Hairy realised.
Hairy slowly went over to the Sea Monster and quietly said "D...d...do you want me to teach you how to read?"
"Yes please, that would be absolutely lovely." said the Sea Monster surprisingly.
They started to read the book together. Hairy guided the Sea Monster through the chapters, helping him learn lots of new words as they went along.
Very quickly, they became best friends.
Once they had finished reading the book, Hairy and the Sea Monster agreed to meet each other the next day. They had both enjoyed it so much that they couldn't wait to do it all again.
Hairy sadly said goodbye and swam back to his teacup.
Because of the exciting and busy day Hairy had just had, he decided to get into his warm and cosy bed and he fell asleep straight away. As he slept, Hairy dreamt about the next adventure he might have with his new friend.
