Sheffield will be one of the busiest locations on BBC Music Day with free events around the city. There will be music to suit every taste from grime lovers to jazz aficionados with a few surprises along the way. Find out everything happening below.
Yellow Arch
Time: 8pm

An evening of live music and djs shining a spotlight on Sheffield's unique independent music scene curated by DJ Sophie Toes. Look out for an extra special performance by The Eccentronic Research Council featuring nationally acclaimed and multi-talented actress Maxine Peake. This one is definitely not to be missed.

The Winter Garden
Activities will start at 10am and run all day

Local music fans, musicians and gig goers have contributed hundreds of their favourite music memories and experiences. These will be displayed in the Winter Garden throughout the day. Go and have a gander, and whilst you do we have some off the wall artists and some well known Sheffield big hitters to entertain you.

Sheffield Town Hall
Time: 5pm

Local opera singer and co-founder of Opera On Location, Gareth Lloyd will take to the Town Hall steps to perform an unforgettable rendition of the aria Nessun Dorma followed by Crimes against Taste

Moor Markets

Two different eras of legendary Sheffield music do battle over the two headphone channels. Pick up a pair of headphones as you wander around the fruit and veg, and choose between the 2 DJs offering, pre and post 1990’s Sheffield tunes. Let the battle commence!

Hope Works
Time: 12 midnight

Mapping Creativity is a 3D projector mapping art installation and music event in Hope Works Sheffield curated by Lo Shea and part of the 2016 Year Of Making. Its purpose is to showcase and celebrate the wealth and diversity of talent in Sheffield art, design and music and to do it in a non standard format, in real time in a clubbing environment. We will dance to the sound of Sheffield musical artists while we watch the makings of our makers.

Plug

Plug are hosting Snap, an active event that uses current popular youth culture to engage with young people. The project provides entertainment while training young people at the same time and offering workshops in such skills as media and languages.
