Revelation Strings

Revelation St Mary’s concert with Revelation Strings

Revelation St. Mary's hosts an evening of music with a mix of classical repertoire and a wide range of pop and jazz favourites. Plus the chance for workshop participants to play alongside the Revelation Strings (see below). Tickets are available at the venue website.

Stormont

BBC Northern Ireland and BBC Radio Ulster will be holding a unique event celebrating the power and joy of music and community at the historic Stormont Parliament Buildings. The event will feature The Ulster Orchestra and a wide variety of cross-genre musical talent spanning generations. The traditional home of political debate will throw open its doors to the harmonious sounds of music at its very best. BBC Radio Ulster’s Sean Coyle & Hugo Duncan will also host special outside broadcasts from Hilltown, Co Down and Carrickmore, Co Tyrone.

Music Day will be coming to the heart of Birmingham as BBC Songs of Praise creates a "flash-mob" performance of the gospel classic "This Train" with soul singer and Later... with Jools Holland star Ruby Turner. Ruby will be joined by the winners of the first-ever Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year, Birmingham's Town Hall Gospel Choir.

After the success of last year, the ground-breaking British Paraorchestra, the world’s first professional ensemble of disabled musicians, return to Colston Hall to perform for BBC Music Day. The group is headed up by conductor Charles Hazlewood, a genuine pioneer and innovator in the world of classical music.

Shaun The Sheep and the Vegetable Orchestra

In celebration of Aardman’s 40th anniversary, children are invited to join Shaun the Sheep and become part of his Vegetable Orchestra for a live performance at Colston Hall on Music Day.

BBC Radio 3 -In Tune

The programme will come LIVE from Colston Hall with Sean Rafferty, where he’ll be joined by the Southwest Open Youth Orchestra who use assisted technology to make music.

Conductor Charles Hazlewood and members of his Paraorchestra will join Sean for his programme ahead of their evening concert, along with The Bristol Neurological Choir and BBC Young Musician Winner, the violinist Jennifer Pike.

Live Pop-up Performances

Cambridge will host live pop-up performances with young artists, songwriters and bands across the city.

The day will culminate with a special collaboration between emerging and established local artists, such as The Dowsing Sound Collective, who are in their own words 'about as far from a traditional choir as you can get.'

Duran Duran live at Eden

BBC Music Day Ambassadors and musical legends Duran Duran will be joined by Laura Mvula when they headline the finale of BBC Music Day at Cornwall's Eden Project, with the iconic Biomes providing the backdrop to the spectacular outdoor stage.

The concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 and BBC One’s The One Show will be coming live from the Eden Project.

Travis and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra

In a unique collaboration, the award winning Scottish band Travis join the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra for a fabulous night of music at the iconic Barrowland venue in Glasgow on Friday 3rd June 2016. The concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio Scotland.

In the spirit of Music Day, there will be 1000 free tickets available for this fantastic showcase of music. Details will be released shortly regarding how to obtain them.

Strokestra - The Hull Stroke Project

STROKEstra

STROKEstra is a pioneering collaboration between the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Hull Integrated Community Stroke Service which uses group creative music-making to drive patient-led rehabilitation work in stroke survivors and their carers. Fifty stroke survivors will perform with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra musicians outside St Stephen’s shopping centre.

On Friday June 3rd Lancaster Library will stage an exclusive all-ages show with BBC Music Day Ambassador Lady Leshurr, one of the most talked about rappers of recent times.

Yorkshire Brass

Yorkshire Brass in the City Square

Leeds is celebrating music and bands from across the West Yorkshire region in a Brass Bonanza. Launching at Millennium Square, there’ll be pop-up bandstands around the city, finishing with a big collaborative performance of Yorkshire anthem 'Ilkley Moor Bah Tat’ in City Square.

David Hoyles ‘Yorkshire Brass’ show on BBC Radio Leeds will also give people the opportunity to perform as part of a special band for the day, playing alongside all of the brass, jazz, funk and other musicians in the grand finale.

Liverpool

Huey Morgan headlines BBC Music Day in Liverpool

BBC Introducing Showcase at the The International Mersey River Festival, headlined by Huey Morgan

Liverpool waterfront will host a stunning BBC Music Introducing showcase featuring both emerging and established bands, including Natalie McCool, The Sundowners, Claire Macleod, Cavalry, Tea Street Band, Louis Berry and Clean Cut Kid. Huey Morgan will headline the event with a two hour DJ set.

BBC Music Day in Liverpool will take place as part of The International Mersey River Festival.

London

The John Ongom Big Band are a community band based in Leytonstone. They play big band music from the classic big band era including works from Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Ella Fitzgerald and Buddy Rich. They will be playing in Chingford Green from 7:30pm

Westminster Music Library Prokofiev Workshops

Your chance to join the world famous Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Westminster Music Library for an intergenerational celebration of the 125th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Prokofiev.

Two creative workshops and a public performance will introduce primary-age pupils and the elderly to the composer through exploration of his beloved programmatic piece, Peter and the Wolf.

There will be a free concert at Westminster Music Library at 4:10pm

Zest Fest

Zest Fest, run by LIME Music for Health, will be held at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. They will be celebrating BBC Music Day with some of Manchester’s best musical talent, including LIME’s incredible Music for Health Team. Unique artists and bands such as Project Jam Sandwich, Global Grooves and the RNCM will also be performing.

Music for all ages

Norwich will be a platform for performers of all ages as colleges and schools around Europe showcase their talents, thanks to organisations like Laboratory Media Education. There will be an eclectic range of music, such as Norfolk Band Killamonjambo and the popular samba band, Rabo de Foguette. Also look out for Catton Grove Primary School performances and the Sistema Norwich Orchestra, as well as events in Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library.

Lau at the City Hall

Since their debut album in 2007, award-winning folk trio Lau have picked up four awards for ‘Best Group’ at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and will be playing at City Hall.

Sheffield will be one of the busiest locations on BBC Music Day with 22 events planned across the city. Sheffield Makes Music aims to suit every taste from grime lovers to jazz aficionados and there will be a few surprises along the way. Here's a taster of what you can expect...

Town Hall - Gareth Lloyd will take to the Town Hall steps to perform an unforgettable rendition of the aria Nessun Dorma.

Winter Gardens - Play host to an interactive musical event for children of all ages where they’ll be encouraged to pick up and play an instrument.

Moor Markets - Wireless headphones will be handed out on entry playing big Sheffield tunes from Arctic Monkeys to Def Leppard and everything in-between.

Hope Works - Mapping Creativity is a 3D projector art installation and music event - a showcase of Sheffield's incredible wealth of art, design and musical talent.

St. Austell

Dalla - performing in St. Austell

Town Centre Musical Extravaganza

St Austell town centre's White River Place will be a hive of musical activity with pop-up performances, workshops for all the family, a musical parade through the town and a Big Sing. It's all happening between 10.00 and 17.00 and it's open to all.

Cornish folk band Dalla and Cuban band Kabasa will be putting on special performances as part of the celebrations.
