Serenity and sanctuary for Fearne Cotton
Radio and TV presenter Fearne Cotton has been gracing the airwaves since joining Radio 1 in 2006. She has presented her own weekday morning slot since 2009 and is currently on maternity leave expecting her second child.
Spotted at the age of 15 by ITV's Disney Club, Fearne has been presenting ever since.
But when Fearne isn't presenting, being a mum, having her own fashion line or baking, she loves to get the paint brushes out.
With so many talents to juggle we asked Fearne what being creative means to her.

How do you get creative outside of work?

Nothing beats that feeling of paint hitting a canvas and turning a blank space into something colourful and expressive
Painting is 100% my sanctuary. I love to get my paints out and drift off in to my own world. Finishing a painting and feeling happy with the result is just the best.
How does it make you feel?
When I’m painting I feel so serene. I go through a whole spectrum of emotions. I love the painting I’m creating, then I hate it, then I start to love it again until I feel it’s finished. Then I can step back and enjoy the results.
Why would you encourage other people to get creative?
Being creative is essential to me and something that I would encourage everyone to try and do, regardless of age or ability. For me, I discovered art and painting from an early age and nothing beats that feeling of paint hitting a canvas and turning a blank space into something colourful and expressive. Now I'm a mum I understand the importance of creativity even more as I see my son use his imagination and discover different ways to communicate through it. You don’t have to be Picasso and it really doesn’t matter if you can’t draw, sing, dance or make anything. What does matters is having a go and just seeing what happens. I guarantee that you’ll get pleasure out of it and produce something totally unique to you, which is the best feeling in the world. 'Get Creative' and give it a go, you even discover something new about yourself doing it.
