Make a note: always have an ideas book to hand

Each week on Get Creative a well known face shares with us their hidden talent. This week artist and fun seeker Phil Gallagher, aka CBeebies' Mister Maker, tells us why it's always a good idea to have a notebook to hand.

Phil is best known for his role as Mister Maker, the arts and craft show for pre-schoolers. He has worked in children's television for more than 14 years, starting his career at BBC Radio Kent before moving to the Disney Channel.

But when he's not teaching children fun ways to use their creativity, he writes, performs on stage and even when he's not working, he's still thinking of new ways to get creative. We asked him to tell us more.

How do you get creative outside of work?

You never know when an arty brainwave will strike

I keep a little ideas notebook on me at all times! You never know when an arty brainwave will strike and it is always a good idea to write down your creative idea before you forget it!

How does it make you feel?

Getting creative and making things gives me great joy. On our CBeebies show, we aim to have fun by using ordinary materials to create something extraordinary. It is very exciting to be part of that.

Why would you encourage other people to get creative?

Being creative is really enjoyable and it can give you confidence and a sense of pride. It is also a great thing to do with friends and family.
