Will Best's workout for the brain
Each week on Get Creative a famous face shares with us their hidden talent. This week it's the turn of TV presenter Will Best.
Will has been on our television screens since 2010, presenting Suck My Pop with Girls Aloud's Kimberley Walsh, before joining the T4 family on Channel 4, where he also hosted the iTunes Festival, interviewing bands backstage..
Will runs a series of house nights in London called ReviveHer and has recently launched music sharing site audiosplitter. But when he's not on our TV screens he loves to put pen to paper and write. We asked him to tell us more.

How do you get creative outside of work?

I've always loved writing and I still write a lot. I've written short stories, children's poetry and, perhaps bizarrely, lots of lyrics. That's not to say I'm any good at it, but I love the process (whatever the finished article sounds like).
How does it make you feel?
Both energised and calm. I treat writing like a workout for the brain; it stimulates me and at the same time removes me from whatever's stressing me out before I sit down and put pen to paper (or finger to key). It lets me immerse myself in something that's totally removed from my usual routine, something cathartic but at the same time deeply personal.
Why would you encourage other people to get creative?
Because our creativity is one of the most important things we have and we're all full of it! Creativity isn't just about drawing a picture, or creating music - it's not about being 'an artist'. Creativity can be applied to anything and everything we do. Creative thinking just means looking at a situation differently; whether we're faced with a problem, a decision, or a chance to have fun, a bit of creativity helps us get a whole load more out of it. But just like anything else, creativity needs to be nurtured, practiced and developed, so if we spend any time at all focusing on getting our creative juices flowing then we're spending out time very, very well. Plus, creating soemthing feels amazing. Double win.
