The 14 funniest things that have happened at Radio 1 in 2017 (so far)

Radio 1 tries to achieve a lot of things (getting you up in the morning, entertaining you on the way home from work, bringing you the best new music) but we'd also quite like to make you laugh.

Fortunately, we've had some A-list help with that in 2017. Here are 15 of the funniest moments from Radio 1 this year and the big name stars who made it all happen.

Reading pure filth with Liam Payne

Scott Mills' 'perve pad' reveals the very worst (or best) of what fans says to popstars on Twitter. Liam Payne was the first to scroll through the sexy messages and even the slick One Direction star was shocked by some of the things that were said.

Getting meme reactions from Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise is famous for many things (youthful good looks, fearless stunt work, being an acting legend) but perhaps he should be known better for an incredible sense of humour. Radio 1's Ali Plumb had the star in hysterics when he showed him some of the best Tom Cruise memes on the internet.

Meeting your icons with Greg James

In case you didn't know, Greg James is Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's biggest fan, so when the two met in the US to talk about Baywatch, it was a big moment for Greg. It's just a shame he had to put The Rock on 'ballwatch' during their chat because the shorts he was wearing to meet his icon were so, so short.

Pranking fans with Shawn Mendes

When Radio 1 spent a weekend in Hull for Big Weekend, we decided to prank some of our listeners - with a little help from A-list pop stars. The reaction from Izzy and Lily, when they picked up a phone call from Shawn Mendes, was one of the highlights of our weekend.

Getting wet with Lee Ryan

Lee Ryan made his name in boyband Blue, but he's now enjoying a whole new lease of life in his career as part of the EastEnders cast. With this new role comes new opportunities, such as playing an especially sodden round of Innuendo Bingo with Scott Mills and Chris Stark.

Pranking a pet shop with Chris Pratt

When Chris Pratt was promoting Guardians Of The Galaxy, he probably never expected to be phoning British pet shops to chat about stick insects, and yet here he is doing just that. It's not all fun, games and fancy premieres for Hollywood A-listers, especially round these parts.

Counting down the charts with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

William and Kate were great sports when they joined Greg James to count down the UK Top Ten this year and they enjoyed themselves so much, William even said they'd do a better job than Greg when he suggested they stand in for him when he's on holiday. We need to get something in the diary.

Pranking an impersonator with Niall Horan

A warning to all Niall Horan impersonators out there: If you get a call from a man called Dave from Hounslow wanting to book you for a gig, you might want to double check he is who he says he is.

Singing about Creme Eggs with Lorde

Lorde was recently outed as the mystery person running an Instagram account reviewing onion rings, but we found out at Easter that onion rings aren't the only junk food she's a huge fan of.

Flirting with Jake Gyllenhaal

The relationship (or lack of) between Nick Grimshaw and Jake Gyllenhaal is the greatest love story ever told at Radio 1. We could watch these two flirt for days.

Gatecrashing Katy Perry interviews with Ed Sheeran

Having Katy Perry in the studio is a big enough story, but having Ed Sheeran gate-crash her interview with Nick Grimshaw turned a great interview into a hilarious one. It was made all the more brilliant by the fact he'd just stopped her single, Chained To The Rhythm, getting to No.1.

Hunting for sausage with Jamie Dornan

Nick Grimshaw and Alan Carr kindly prepared a very special game to play with Jamie Dornan when he visited The Radio 1 Breakfast Show. We just can't work out who enjoyed sniffing out the sausage most.

Pranking a toy shop with Lego Batman (Will Arnett)

Not only did actor Will Arnett smash his Alphabeticall, he did it all in character as Lego Batman. It's the first time we've ever had a superhero on the phone.

Laughing for 24 hours with Scott Mills and Chris Stark

And, when it comes to all-out hilarity and non-stop nonsense, we've not laughed harder than when Scott Mills and Chris Stark stayed up for 24 hours telling jokes for Red Nose Day. Their sleepless night raised more than £275,000 for charity.
