An international survey suggests that a quarter of the world's population sees the United States as the greatest threat to world peace.

But the survey, carried out by WIN/Gallup International, also found that the US was the most popular destination for people to move to.

Almost half of those polled thought the coming year would be better than 2013, and more than a third said the world would be a better place if most politicians were women.

The group, which carries out an annual end of year poll, interviewed almost 67.000 people in 65 countries.

Schumacher is described as critical

The former world motor-racing champion, Michael Schumacher, has spent the night in hospital after emergency surgery for a head injury he sustained while skiing in the French Alps.

His condition is described as critical.

Doctors in Grenoble said the German driver was in a coma when he was admitted and required an immediate operation by neurosurgeons.

One of France's leading trauma specialists, who is also a close friend of Schumacher, has been flown to the hospital.

The driver was wearing a helmet when he fell and hit his head on a rock while skiing near Meribel.
