Being able to use the past tense correctly is very important when you learn a language. It enables you to speak, write and read about past events and to understand when people talk about the past.
If you want to speak or write about another person, you must change the verb endings.
Read the following passage taken from a papur bro, or community newspaper, which congratulates Sam Davies on running in the Cardiff Half Marathon. Try to spot the past tense forms.
Rhedeg yn hanner marathon Caerdydd
llongyfarchiadaucongratulations i Sam Davies, Pentre, am redeg yn hanner marathon Caerdydd.
teithioddhe travelled Sam ar y trên i Gaerdydd ar nos Wener, Hydref 2il. Yna, ar fore Sadwrn, Hydref 3ydd, bwytodd e uwdporridge a ffrwythau i frecwast, cerddodd e i'r castell ac, am ddeg o'r gloch, dechreuodd e redeg yr hanner marathon.
Rhedodd e'n dda a gorffennodd e'r ras mewn dwy awr, deg munud, 30 eiliada second.
"Dw i'n hapus iawn gydayr amser ynathat time," dywedodd Sam. "Ond dw i'n mynd i drio rhedeg yn fwy cyflymfaster y flwyddyn nesaf."
