Being able to use the past tense correctly is very important when you learn a language. It enables you to speak, write and read about past events and to understand when people talk about the past.

Other past tenses - roedd (had) + wedi

You may want to say that you – or someone else – had done something. If so, you should use the roedd tense + wedi, eg:

Roeddwn i wedi gorffen y gwaith. – I had finished the work.

Roedd Ben wedi gweithio’n galed cyn yr arholiad. – Ben had worked hard before the exam.

Roedden ni wedi penderfynu. – We had decided.

Think back to the previous page and the social event you've organised. You are now writing a report about how you had prepared before the event.

What would the following be in Welsh?

  1. I had written to the centre.
  2. I had made posters.
  3. I had made tickets.
  4. I had sold tickets.
  5. I had bought food and drink.
  6. I had invited six bands.
