DESCRIPTION: West Midlands
At 5.3 million people, the West Midlands region is larger in population size than several EU states. It is one of nine areas in the UK losing a seat to create space in the European Parliament for representatives from new member countries, so it will only have seven MEPs at the 2004 elections. The West Midlands European Parliament area extends to Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
