DESCRIPTION: East Midlands
The region stretches from the Lincolnshire coast to the Peak District in Derbyshire and south to Northamptonshire. The tourism industry in many parts of the East Midlands is also hoping to get EU grants for development of infrastructure - but new joiners in continental Europe will be clamouring for that money as well. It is also one of four English regions to experiment with a postal-only vote. The experiment is intended to boost turnout, which was lower in the UK than any other EU country in 1999.
