DESCRIPTION: North West
The constituency stretches from Crewe to Carlisle, taking in more than five million voters, making it larger than 11 EU member states. Currently, the region is represented in the European Parliament by 10 MEPs. That figure is being reduced to nine following EU enlargement. Like its neighbours in the north of England, the North West is taking part in the all postal ballot experiment, with the hope that turnout will be raised above the very low levels of 1999.
