RUBY: Valencia is world famous for motor sports. There are motorbikes, touring cars and Formula 1. It's really exciting.
LUNA: Estamos en el circuito de Cheste.
Aquí hay coches, motos y Fórmula uno.
¡Hey, esperarme!
¡Mira! Es el coche de Fernando Alonso.
MAURO: Fernando Alonso es el piloto más famoso de toda España.
SERGI: Mira que ruedas tan grandes tiene su coche.
RUBY: Y va muy rápido.
ALL: ¡Vamos!
RUBY: But today, we are here at the track's very own karting school to talk to three wannabe motor racing stars of the future.
Meet eight-year-old Luis.
LUIS: Me llamo Luis y tengo 8 años.
RUBY: His big sister Carmen who is 13.
CARMEN: Me llamo Carmen y tengo 13 años.
RUBY: And Carmen's friend Patri.
PATRI: Yo me llamo Patri y también tengo 13 años.
RUBY: We wanted to ask them how long they've been racing.
SERGI: ¿Siempre has querido ser corredor?
CARMEN: Sí.
LUIS: Sí, porque es una tradición familiar.
MAURO: ¿Has ganado algún premio?
LUIS: No, nunca he ganado un premio.
CARMEN: Sí, he ganado premios del Valenciano, del Catalán y la Copa de Campeones.
Este es mi kart, estos son los pedales.
Estos son los neumáticos.
Este es mi casco y esto es un motor.
RUBY: It's race day and Carmen's got a big challenge on. With final checks on the car complete she's ready for the race itself. La carrera.
It's mostly boys in the race and she wants to beat them.
And they're off, 15 laps of the track in mad hot heat at speeds of up to 133km per hour.
We've all got our fingers crossed for Carmen.
¡Fantástico!
In the final lap Carmen takes second position and a place on the podium.
Un beso. That's Spanish for kiss from her dad.
Un abrazo. That means a hug from her mum and brother Luis.
CARMEN: Me siento muy emocionada, muy contenta.
RUBY: Another trophy. Carmen's already been right round Europe competing. Maybe one day she'll be a real Formula 1 champion.

Teacher Notes
- Using Fernando Alonso as an example, pupils could create a profile of another famous Spanish speaking sportsperson including their name, age, country of origin, sport, and competitions won.
- This could be developed into a pair role-play activity where one person is a TV interviewer and the other is the sportsperson.
