RUBY: Valencia has thousands of fruit farms. Oranges, grapes and peaches are just some of the fruit grown here.
Today we've come to help farmer Vicente pick nectarines: 'recoger las nectarinas'.
VICENTE: A ver, buscarla y cogerla.
VICENTE: ¿Os gusta coger? ¿O qué?
ALL: Sí.
¡Ala! ¡Qué bonita y qué grande!
MAURO: Me encanta.
SERGI: Estoy cansado.
CARLA: Hace mucho calor.
MAN: ¿Está buena?
SERGI: Deliciosa. Qué buena.
A group of Spanish children visits Vicente's fruit farm.
They help him pick fruit from the trees and list other fruit grown in the surrounding fields such as apples, nectarines, pears, grapes and peaches.
After a tiring day they go to see what happens to the fruit after it has been collected.
They follow the process of weighing it, packing it and getting it ready to go to the shops, not just in Spain but all over Europe.
This clip is from the BBC series, Being Spanish.
Teacher Notes
- You could practise the names of different fruit grown in Spain and then give pupils a set of different fruit pictures, which they could show in class when the right fruit is mentioned in the video.
- Pupils could also be given a flow chart to show the process of fruit travelling from the farm to the shop.
- Each stage of the process could be labelled in Spanish with some gaps for pupils to fill in, based on the words that appear on the screen.
- Pupils could then research the process of a different item of fruit or vegetable making its way from farm to shop and create their own flow chart.
