| Thursday, 24 October, 2002, 06:04 GMT 07:04 UK Giants fight back ![]() Santiago started badly but drove in a crucial Giants run San Francisco 4-3 Anaheim Best-of-seven series all square at 2-2. The San Francisco Giants produced a gutsy comeback against the Anaheim Angels to level the World Series on Wednesday. After being outplayed in game three, the Giants were determined to put on a better show in front of their home fans in game four. And they rallied after falling 3-0 behind. They burst into life in the fifth innings to hit three runs and ignite the subdued crowd at the Pac Bell Field.
In securing the win, the Giants ended the perfect post-season for reliever Francisco Rodriguez who had not conceded a hit in the World Series. "It was a fastball, I was just trying to get a pitch I could handle and hit hard," said Bell. "He (Rodriguez) has had a lot of success so far, he's done a great job for those guys. "So to get a win tonight was big, I think to get a run off him was important too."
David Eckstein brought Gill home on a sacrifice fly to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Troy Glaus extended the lead in the third innings with a two-run homer - the seventh of his post-season, tying Barry Bonds. It was not until the fifth innings that the Giants managed to get to grips with Angels pitcher Lackey. He had earlier loaded the bases twice, walking Barry Bonds on both occasions, but each time managed to escape. But in the fifth, Rich Aurilia, Jeff Kent and Santiago each contributed an RBI to tie the game at 3-3. It was then left to Bell to produce the goods in the eighth to level the series. |
