Mike Tyson shows off his new tattoo |
Mike Tyson's on-off bout with Clifford Etienne will now go ahead as planned. The former undisputed heavyweight champion has flown into Memphis to prepare for Saturday's fight at the city's Pyramid Arena.
Tyson pulled out of the contest on Monday saying he was suffering from flu and a stomach illness.
But on Tuesday, 'Iron Mike', who has a new tattoo around his left eye, made an amazing U-turn.
I think he's going to win and fight for the heavyweight title Etienne's manager Les Bonano. |
It has been suggested the controversial American only agreed to fight after last-minute pay talks with US cable network Showtime. But trainer Freddie Roach told the Memphis Commercial Appeal: "I don't think he was pressured. He just felt better this morning."
In another bizarre twist, Etienne announced on Tuesday that he no longer wanted to face Tyson.
But he has also now changed his mind, according to his manager Les Bonano.
"He called me this morning and said 'I'm going to the gym and I'm going to fight,'" Bonano told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"I think it was a ploy from Tyson all along, so I told him not to get involved and caught up in it.
"I think it was all choreographed and it worked. Tyson has always been an intimidator."
