Tim Salmon's second two-run homer of the night lifted Anaheim to a 11-10 win over San Francisco in game two of the World Series.

Sunday's comeback victory at Edison Field levelled the best-of-seven series at 1-1. It moves north for game three on Tuesday.

Salmon, the longest-serving Angel, stepped up in the bottom of eighth inning with two out and smacked Felix Rodriguez's first offering over the fence in deep left centre.

The blast brought in David Eckstein to send Anaheim into an 11-9 lead and the sold-out home crowd of 44,584 into a frenzy.

But they had to wait to celebrate the win as Barry Bonds tagged Troy Percival for solo home run with two out in the ninth to pull the Giants within one.

The first inning saw the Angels rock Giants starter Russ Ortiz for five runs on six hits, all singles apart from a Darin Erstad double.

Back-to-back homers

Lead-off hitter Eckstein sparked the run-fest with a curving single to right, coming home on Erstad's double to the wall in centre.

Garret Anderson, Brad Fullmer and Scott Spiezio also contributed RBI singles, with Fullmer becoming just the 14th player and first since Tim McCarver in 1964 to steal home in a World Series.

The five runs were also the most scored in the first inning of the Fall Classic since the 1979 Baltimore Orioles.

But San Francisco fought back, keyed by back-to-back homers from Reggie Sanders and David Bell cutting the deficit to 5-4.

Barry Bonds opened the inning with a walk and advanced on a single from JT Snow.

Sanders then scored both men when he took Angels' starter Kevin Appier over the left-field wall with his second home run in two games.

Bell then hammered Appier's one out offering over the fence in centre.

But the Angels surged ahead again as Salmon cracked his first two-run homer of the night just inside the left field foul pole, again scoring Eckstein for a 7-4 lead.

But the Giants continued chipping away in the third, with Jeff Kent tagging Appier for his third home run, chasing the Angels' starter from the game.

A four-run burst in the fifth gave the Giants their first and only lead of the contest.

A line drive single into right from Snow scored Rich Aurilia and Bonds, who was walked for a third time, to tie the score at 7-7.

Bell and Shawon Dunston then added RBI singles scoring Benito Santiago and Snow to push the Giants ahead 9-7.

Suddenly it was the Angels turn to comeback, Spiezio's sacrifice fly bringing home Glaus to narrow the gap to 9-8.

Trailing by a run and two out in the sixth, the Rally Monkey made his first appearance of the night and Anderson immediately responded with his second RBI single of the contest to tie the score at 9-9.

Francisco Rodriguez claimed the win for the Angels working three shut-out inning in relief while the Giants' Felix Rodriguez took the loss.
