| Wednesday, 23 October, 2002, 00:41 GMT 01:41 UK Ballwatch: San Francisco 4-10 Anaheim ![]() Bonds aims to add to his 46 homers at PacBell Regular updates from baseball's World Series as the Giants take on the Angels. Refresh for latest news. Giants 4-10 Angels (final) Ninth innings: The San Francisco challenge comes to an end with a whimper. The hosts now trail the Angels by 2-1 in the best-of-seven World Series. Eighth innings: The runs keep coming for Anaheim, who benefit from a fielding error to send their score into double figures. A double play brings an early end to the Giants' innings. The home team will need a miracle to turn this game around now. Seventh innings: Things have settled down at PacBell Stadium after the fast-and-furious scoring of earlier innings. Both teams threaten briefly but the score stays the same. Sixth innings: David Eckstein gets a two-out base-hit to drive home another runner as the visiting Angels refuse to be intimidated by their hosts. The Giants - and their fans - seem to be deflated. The momentum goes out of their comeback when they strand a man on base and fail to score. Fifth innings: The Angels fire again, but they leave two runners on base and fail to add to their score. In the bottom of the innings, the Giants spark into life behind Rich Aurilia's solo homer. And then the crowd goes wild as Barry Bonds picks up two RBIs with a towering home run to the centre-field stand. It is his seventh long-ball hit of the playoffs - a new MLB record - and the battle is now joined in San Francisco. Fourth innings: Giants pitcher Hernandez continues to struggle. He gives up a fifth run and is pulled from the game. But things just get worse for the Giants, who slip even further behind courtesy of RBIs from Spiezio, Adam Kennedy and Bengie Molina. The home fans are starting to grow restless as they observe a worrying trend develop. Anaheim are scoring at will and San Francisco's bullpen has no answer. Third innings: Anaheim take to Giants starting pitcher Livan Hernandez, and Tim Salmon profits from a fielding error to drive home David Eckstein. With the scores level, Troy Glaus smashes through centre-field to score another run. And then Scott Spiezio smites a stand-up triple to increase the visitors' lead. The Giants have no answer to that big innings. Ortiz plucks up the courage to pitch to Bonds and gets the better of him striking him out with three good pitches. Second innings: The Angels load the bases, but leave all three runners stranded. San Francisco fail to add to their lead, but will be able to attack the visitors with the top of their batting order in the next innings. First innings: Barry Bonds is denied a chance to make an instant impact when he is intentionally walked by Angels pitcher Ramon Ortiz. But the Giants do make their mark when Benito Santiago scores Kenny Lofton with the bases loaded. Build-up: A capacity crowd is on hand at San Francisco's PacBell Park for the third game of the World Series between the Giants and the Angels. Barry Bonds is hoping to make a difference in front of his home fans, hundreds of whom have filled McCovey Cove in their boats, hoping to grab a souvenir should the big man drive a home run into the bay. |
