Ayr in the Money
BBC Sport Online's Chris Charles picks out some of the quirky, offbeat or plain daft stories doing the rounds.

Ayr in the Money

Ayr United have agreed a deal for a new goalkeeper - who will be paid one pound a week!

United coach Campbell Money, who retired from playing in 1996, signed up on his 42nd birthday.

The move came about because the club cannot sign any players until the transfer window opens again in January.

Money insists he will only play for the Honest Men in an "absolute emergency".

Think of the appearance money, Campbell - you'd probably get at least 50p.

Mobile groan

A football trainer has been given the red card for using his mobile phone on the pitch.

Dave Nicholls, 51, was summoned on to treat a player during the game in Sevenoaks, Kent.

But as he was working his magic, his phone rang and he automatically answered it.

Sadly the ref did not see the funny side and Dave received his marching orders.

Perhaps the official didn't like his tone.

Over the Joon

Football fever has still not died down in South Korea, with the head of the country's FA now running for President.

Football 1-0 politics

Chung Mong-joon decided to go into politics after helping to mastermind South Korea's stunning success in the summer.

Guus Hiddink's team reached the semi-finals of the World Cup - and Chung looks likely to cash in, with opinion polls showing him well in front of the governing party.

Who said sport and politics don't mix?
