Fatboy's whim
BBC Sport Online's Chris Charles picks out some of the quirky, offbeat or plain daft stories doing the rounds.

Fatboy's whim

Superstar DJ Fatboy Slim has coughed up 500,000 for a stake in his beloved Brighton.

The Premier League star now owns 11% of the First Division club - and the news is music to the ears of Seagulls fans.

If his recent gig on Brighton beach is anything to go by, attendances should be up by around 244,000 before too long.

You've got to have a bit of sympathy for the Withdean Stadium's resident DJ though.

Prison balls

Football coaches in Belgium are taking on their toughest assignment yet after volunteering to teach prisoners.

Hardened criminals will be not be allowed out

Thirteen experts are giving up their spare time to visit jails across the country and pass on the benefit of their wisdom.

After a few sessions they will be picking teams to take part in a national competition.

A government spokesman admitted that hardened criminals would not be allowed to take part - in case they tried to escape.

Those left behind will be allowed to bet on the outcome of games - and will no doubt tell the players what the score is going to be before the matches kick off.

Blackballed

All 11 members of a football team were sent off before a ball had been kicked in anger.

Becks FC, from Worthing in Sussex, were given their marching orders for turning up in an all-black strip, flouting FA rules.

They eventually managed to ponce some more kit, but reverted to the original in the dressing room to mourn a 1-0 defeat.
