Bog standard
BBC Sport Online's Chris Charles picks out some of the quirky, offbeat or plain daft stories doing the rounds.

Bog standard

A 15-year-old schoolboy has been crowned king of the bog.

Phillip John, of Bridgend, south Wales held off the challenge of 86 competitors to win the World Bog Snorkelling Championships.

Bog snorkelling
Hang on a minute, I'm in the bog

He completed the course at the Waen Rhydd swamp in 1 min 45 secs.

Challengers must swim 60 yards through the murky bog, with the aid of a snorkel and flippers.

No qualifications are necessary, but if you're toilet trained, you're half-way there.

Fan United

An 80-year-old man claims to have watched every single Manchester United home game since 1926.

Norman Windram was just four years old when he saw his first match, against Oldham Athletic.

The side finished a lowly 15th that year, but it didn't stop Norman's father taking him along until he was old enough to go by himself.

Since then he has seen roughly 1800 games, but insists he still gets just as excited as he did 76 years ago.

And you can bet your bottom dollar he's not a fan of prawn sandwiches.

Dogs collared

Sniffer dogs at the US Open tennis have been ordered to wear photo identity tags.

And don't even think about wearing a disguise

All animals inside the Arthur Ashe Stadium have got their very own passport hanging around their necks.

The security-conscious move comes despite the fact that each dog will be accompanied by a handler with full ID.

That's what you call wuff justice.
