| Tuesday, 12 November, 2002, 22:23 GMT Bournemouth 1-0 Orient Bournemouth had Warren Feeney's injury time goal to thank for their victory against Leyton Orient in the LDV Vans Trophy. Northern Ireland international Feeney seized on a mistake in the visitors' defence to drill home a right-foot shot which took a deflection off Orient captain Dean Smith. The goal was a rare moment of excitement in a match of few chances, with the O's failing to muster a shot on target in the entire 90 minutes. Bournemouth also created few openings, but Orient keeper Glen Morris escaped embarrassment in the 29th minute. He was caught in possession outside his area but a lob from Wade Elliott landed on the roof of the net. The visitors' best chance came in the 41st minute when John Martin - at full stretch - failed narrowly to turn in a centre from the right by Ciaran Toner. Feeney came close to giving Bournemouth the lead in the 75th minute with a fierce right-foot shot from the edge of the area but Morris made a smart save diving to his right. Bournemouth: Moss, Stephen Purches, Broadhurst, Carl Fletcher, Narada, Elliott, Hayter, O'Connor, Thomas, Holmes, Feeney. Subs: Steve Fletcher, Stewart, Young, John Purches, Foyewa. Leyton Orient: Morris, Miller, Smith, Iriekpen, Barnard, Toner, Harris, Martin, Lockwood, Hatcher, Nugent. Subs: Brazier, Barrett, Canham, Watts, Stephens. Referee: C Penton (Sussex). |
