| Tuesday, 12 November, 2002, 22:17 GMT Plymouth 0-1 Brentford Brentford midfielder Stephen Hunt's 89th minute winner knocked Plymouth out of the LDV Vans Trophy. Hunt, who had earlier spurned a glorious opportunity to put the visitors ahead, made amends with a stunning 25-yard strike from the left wing which gave keeper Luke McCormick no chance. Argyle almost won the match themselves but Blair Sturrock volleyed against the post with nine minutes to go while young Brentford goalkeeper Alan Julian was forced into numerous good saves. His best stop came in the 21st minute when he managed to claw away a stinging drive from Hasney Aljofree, and moments later he also denied Sturrock with a low block. Plymouth: McCormick, Worrell, Malcolm, Aljofree, McGlinchey, Beresford, Broad, Lopes, Phillips, Sturrock, Lowndes. Subs: Schofield, Adams, Keith, Stonebridge, Hodges. Brentford: Julian, Dobson, Sonko, Marshall, Frampton, Rowlands, Fullarton, Evans, Hunt, Tabb, Vine. Subs: Paul Smith, Williams, Constantine, Hutchinson, Jay Smith. Referee: L Cable (Surrey). |
