| Wednesday, 13 November, 2002, 23:12 GMT Boston Utd 1-2 Bristol City Defender Danny Coles headed Bristol City into the area quarter-finals of the LDV Vans Trophy with a golden goal winner in the victory over Boston United. He rose to convert a Brian Tinnion corner in the 112th minute, a flag kick which Boston contested bitterly as they believed referee Alan Butler's decision should have been a goal-kick. But City gratefully accepted their winning strike to finally end dogged resistance by the Third Division strugglers. In the normal 90 minutes both sides had enjoyed spells of ascendancy with plenty of positive football on show. City made the initial breakthrough when Scott Murray slid the ball beyond Paul Bastock on 33 minutes. However two minutes before the break Lee Thompson equalised from a cross by Mark Angel. Boston Utd: Bastock, Rusk, Greaves, Hocking, Chapman, Lee Thompson, Bennett, Higgins, Angel, Simon Weatherstone, Battersby. Bristol City: Phillips, Butler, Hill, Coles, Woodman, Murray, Doherty, Hulbert, Rosenior, Peacock, Aaron Brown. Referee: A Butler (Nottinghamshire). |
