| Tuesday, 12 November, 2002, 22:08 GMT Bury 1-0 Barnsley Ian Lawson added to crisis club Barnsley's troubles by dumping the Yorkshire club out of the LDV Vans Trophy at Gigg Lane. Lawson, starved of first team opportunities this season due to loss of form and injury, struck with a 26th-minute volley following a misplaced kick by Tykes goalkeeper Matt Ghent. The former Huddersfield and Stockport striker might have made it 2-0 early in the second half but Barnsley only had themselves to blame for losing to their Third Division hosts. They should have been well clear before Lawson struck with Dave Mulligan bringing out a good save by Glynn Garner and Alex Neil having an effort cleared off the line by Steve Redmond. Rory Fallon headed over after 25 minutes when he should have scored while Kevin Betsy hit the post in the second period. Bury: Garner, Nelson, Redmond, Hill, Unsworth, O'Shaughnessy, Billy, George, Woodthorpe, Lawson, Nugent. Subs: Swailes, Connell, Evans, Whaley, Gunby. Barnsley: Ghent, Mulligan, Morgan, Kay, Gibbs, Betsy, Lumsdon, Neil, Gorre, Sheron, Fallon. Subs: Bertos, Parry, Austin, Williams, Griff Jones. Referee: M Pike (Cumbria). |
