Watson was unable to travel to Belgium for the tournament

Guernsey's Heather Watson had to pull out of a senior tournament because of a hold up with her US student visa.

The 17-year-old was due to play at the $25,000 Westende event in Belgium and had hoped to earn ranking points.

A delay in the return of her passport, during the renewal of her five-year visa, has left Watson unable to travel.

"We were counting the days last week... when it hadn't come by Friday lunchtime we realised it was too late," her father, Ian Watson said.

He added: "We looked on the bright side - that she's got another week on Guernsey."
