Guernsey Athletics manager Steve Ogier has said that his side will learn a lot from the defeat they suffered in their first ever competitive match.
Athletics, who are hoping to play in the Kent Premier League next season, were beaten 8-3 by Belgrave Wanderers to crash out of the Rawlinson Cup.
Ogier told BBC Guernsey: "It's a massive learning curve for all of us at the club - we need to make sure we're competitive in every game we play.
"It just sets a mark at where we need to be to compete with the top sides."
"I think 8-3 was a fair reflection of the game, we came up against a powerful and experienced Belgrave side," he said.
"We scored three good goals but there is plenty to work on."
Athletics are next in action on Saturday, when they travel to meet Bournemouth in the Hampshire Cup.
