Watson goes out in quarter-finals

Watson is still in the doubles competition at Roehampton

Guernsey's Heather Watson has lost in the singles at the AEGON International Junior Championships in Roehampton to the world junior number one.

The 17-year-old, ranked 12th in the world, lost 6-2 6-4 to French Open junior champion Kristina Mladenovic, from France, in the quarter-finals.

"Heather had a point for two-love in the first set but never really got going," said her coach Andrew Fisher.

"This will be a good lesson going into the junior event at Wimbledon."

In the doubles, Watson and Poland's Magda Linette are through to the last eight.

The number six seeds beat Swede Ellen Allgurin and Sachie Isuzu, from Japan, 6-2 6-0 to set up a match against Lesley Kerkhove from the Netherlands and Belgian Ann Sophie Mestach in the quarter-finals.

Junior Wimbledon starts on Saturday.
