Watson went out in the third round of the tournament |
Guernsey's Heather Watson suffered a surprise defeat in the Citta' di Santa Croce world junior tournament in Italy. The 16-year-old top seed was knocked out in the third round by the 15th seed and local favourite Martina Trevisan. Watson took the first set 6-1 and was well on course for victory when she led 3-1 in the second. But Trevisan, who is 18 months younger but has a senior ranking, reeled off five games in a row to win it 6-3 and then added the decider 6-4. There was no quarter given in her doubles match though as first seeds Watson and American Beatrice Capra beat Alessia Camplone of Italy and Turkey's Duygu Ozturk 6-0 6-0. They are through to the quarter-finals, where they will play the Russian sixth seeds Daria Gavrilova and Polina Leykina.
