Watson won all but one of her singles matches in the Junior Fed Cup |
The LTA's national girls junior coach has praised Guernsey's Heather Watson for her performances for Britain in the Junior Fed Cup. The British team made it to the final before going down to the USA on Sunday. "I'm very pleased and very proud of what was a superb effort here this week," Ian Bates told BBC Guernsey. "This event is a fantastic team competition where the best players from all over the world are representing their countries." Watson, 16, won all her matches, except the final where she lost to America's Christina McHale. "The British girls have really done us proud, they've competed with great passion and great determination and they nearly got all the way to winning the title," Bates said. And for Watson it was simply a great chance to play some of the best young players from around the globe. "It's a brilliant experience and we did so well as a team to get so far," she said. "These were the best players from each country so no match was easy and we still managed to do well."
