Guernsey's Heather Watson put in a brave performance before losing 6-4, 6-4 to number three seed, Thailand's Noppawan Lertcheewakarn at the US Open. The 16-year-old broke the junior Wimbledon finalist's serve six times in their second round match at Flushing Meadow, but the Thai was too strong. Watson scored just seven fewer points than her opponent as she showed that she is getting used to the big stage. Watson was Britain's only junior girls competitor at the US Open. The Guernsey schoolgirl had beaten America's Lauren McHale in straight sets in the first round, but lost in the first round of the doubles with American partner Nicole Bartnik to the Dutch fifth seeds Richel Hogenkamp and Arantxa Rus.
