Ex-Gloucester skipper Jake Boer considers his options

Former Gloucester captain Jake Boer is considering all options after a job as a mentor at Kingsholm fell through.

Having initially retired in 2007, the 35-year-old returned to Gloucester in October 2009 to ease an injury crisis.

"I'm looking at all my options it's not a case of limiting it to rugby only," Boer told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"The natural progression for me would obviously be getting involved in coaching whether it's younger kids or a first division side or just below."

Despite having his own business back home in South Africa, Boer - who qualifies as an EU citizen through his Dutch heritage - confirmed he is looking to stay in the UK.

His family are living in England with him and his eldest daughter is studying at college in the country, meaning he is likely to be around for at least a couple more years.

Boer's mooted return to Kingsholm, which had been mentioned by club officials at a fans' forum, never happened and he admitted his disappointment.

"Unfortunately, after quite a lengthy process of negotiations things didn't pan out as I'd hoped," he said.

"The bottom line is sport is a business and there was no room for me in the business."
