Jersey in action against Basingstoke in National Three |
Jersey Rugby Club continued their championship form with a 34-10 win away to Haywards Heath. With yet another bonus point to their credit after four more tries, Jersey stay 12 points clear of second-placed Old Albanians. Donovan Saunders touched down in each half and further tries for Charlie Clyde-Smith and Kern Yates saw Jersey home comfortably.
Old Albanians, who lost in Jersey last weekend, had a 63-17 win against Diss. Jersey coach Ben Harvey was delighted with his side's attitude. He said: "The boys were fantastic again and the work ethic was particularly good. We weren't particularly accurate, we made a lot of mistakes, as did both sides." "The pitch conditions were difficult, and the referee did not allow play to flow in any way," he added. "But to get a bonus point away from home is fantastic." After last Saturday's 19-12 win against their closest league rivals, this victory keeps Jersey well ahead at the top of National League Three. Their next league encounter is home to mid-table Bishops Stortford on Saturday 30 January.
