McKenzie has moved out wide after injuries to Matt Jess and Nic Sestaret
Exeter Chiefs back Paul McKenzie has said he is enjoying filling in for Matt Jess and Nic Sestaret out wide.
McKenzie, 25, joined the Chiefs from Ulster in November as cover after a raft of injuries at centre.
But with wingers Matt Jess and Nic Sestaret injured McKenzie has been moved out wide from his more favoured central position.
"Luckily enough I'm versatile and I can play centre or wing," he told BBC Radio Devon ahead of the game with Bedford.
"When I initially came over it was as centre cover due to an injury crisis, but now that seems to have spread out to the wings," he added.
And while McKenzie is happy to play anywhere in the field, he thinks his best position is the one in which he has played most of the season.
"I probably prefer being at centre, I feel that I can have more impact on the game."
And he says he is looking forward to the re-arranged National Trophy tie on Saturday against third-placed Bedford Blues.
"Cup rugby's a completely different kettle of fish because it's all or nothing.
"It's exciting to play in the cup, it can be a nice break from the league. The main thing is that both sides have got to go out and play to win because if you don't you're out," he added.
