Ulster's Ireland A player Paul McKenzie has signed for Exeter Chiefs.

The 24-year-old, who can play at centre or on the wing, joins the club with immediate effect to help cover for the absence of two injured players.

Bryan Rennie and Mark Fatialofa are both current absentees for Exeter and McKenzie is keen to take his chance.

"I was with Ulster but had not been getting much of an opportunity so I thought it was time to look elsewhere," said the former Churchill Cup player.

"My agent got in contact with Exeter director of rugby Pete Drewett, we had a chat about things and they took a look at me.

"I think I can come here and have something to contribute, but it's only my second day of training and I am not used to getting in the pool at 7.00am.

"I would love to play as soon as possible but I know this is a winning team and so the coaches may not be too keen to play about with it but I will train hard and hopefully I will get my opportunity."

Drewett commented: "We are lucky to have such a quality player come to join us. It will be a case of seeing whether he enjoys being at the club but the early signs are that he will be with us until the end of the season."
