Snow at Meadow Lane has forced the postponement of the Pirates' match |
The South West's sporting programme has been hit hard by the heavy snow that has affected the area. Exeter Chiefs' National Trophy fifth round clash against Bedford at Sandy Park on Saturday is off, as is Launceston's game away at Blackheath. Cornish Pirates' National Trophy match away at Nottingham has also been called off after heavy snow. Torquay United's Blue Square Premier match away at Barrow is also postponed after concerns for travelling fans. The main routes in and out of the region, the A38 and A30, have been badly hit by snow. "This is the first game we have had to cancel at Sandy Park but the severe weather conditions have led us to act in the interest of the players and the supporters," said Exeter Chiefs chief executive Tony Rowe. "This game has been rearranged for the following weekend and all tickets pre-bought for this fixture will be valid for next Saturday." Pirates' match at Nottingham has been re-arranged for next Sunday, 15 February at Meadow Lane, kicking-off at 1400 GMT. No dates have yet been set for the re-arranged matches for Launceston RFC or Torquay United.
