Alan Paver column

Alan displays his moustache for the last time
Our performance matched the sunshine with some wide, open, fast flowing rugby - much to my disgust!!

Hello. Back again. This week I'm happy to be writing off the back of a terrific win against London Welsh on Saturday.

We were treated to a wonderful afternoon with the weather really playing its part.

Our performance matched the sunshine with some wide, open, fast flowing rugby - much to my disgust!

I normally like to come up from a scrum to find the ball having been punted 60 metres down field and I can trot down for the lineout.

Unfortunately our backs decided differently and I spent most of the game looking for my lungs.

That said, it was a terrific performance and we showed a little of our potential.

Let's hope it continues.

The week leading up until the game had been a fairly quiet one.

There were certainly few laughs to be had, with the shaving of the 'mo-vember' moustaches and the fairly brutal fitness training we had to endure, made sure of that!

I don't know whether it was my 'snake hips' comment in last week's column or he was just having a bad day but Raynesy really put us through the mill this week!

Away from the training field we had some very important business on the Causewayhead.

This week we head to our third away game on the trot. Newbury were our first opponents of the season and despite the score line suggesting otherwise, they gave us a stern test. I'm sure, after the first round of games, they will have improved further

The judging of a window dressing competition held between the local primary schools. I think many of the shop owners were concerned for the safety of their premises, as a group of rugby players looked menacingly into their windows!

The results are yet to be revealed, but the competition was fierce and all the schools efforts were fantastic.

This week we head to our third away game on the trot. Newbury were our first opponents of the season and despite the score line suggesting otherwise, they gave us a stern test.

I'm sure, after the first round of games, they will have improved further.

That's about all from the Mennaye this week. Next week I'll hopefully be bringing you a winning report from Newbury and, fingers crossed, news of a less arduous week on the training field!

Grind on,

Paves.
