Alan Paver column

Alan Paver
For those who were not at the game on Sunday, Pirates versus Sedgley Park, you would have enjoyed the spectacle and try-fest put on by us at last, despite the conditions not favouring an open running game

Welcome back to my second column. I hope this finds you well. On with the weekly news

This week started on a high note with the arrival of a healthy baby girl weighing in at a whopping 9 pounds!

So congratulations to the proud parents Heino Senekal and his partner Laurence. Let's hope she doesn't end up her father's height!

Tuesday was an unusual day for the team. We ventured up to Bodmin to assist workers at the Vitalise Churchtown Project.

This involved the boys being divided into teams and set to work on varying tasks around the facility.

My team was given the task of clearing the streams and ponds. This was done in record time which my team has become famous for, given that this was the same team that dominated the marine camp in pre-season.

I would like to say the other teams were working as hard, but I won't lie in print!

Friday saw us signing calendars in Asda, Falmouth. Whilst this sounds glamorous it actually meant we were trying our hardest to sell them.

Once we'd opened one and shown the public its contents though, they really sold themselves! I think September was a particular selling point. No guesses for who features in that month!

'Movember' is ticking along nicely with some horrific 'taches being sported by the lads, not least of all our band of Canadians that returned from international duty this week. I hope you enjoy the photo of their offerings!

I came on late in the first half for an injured Peter Cook. I wasn't anticipating this sudden entry to the game and I had made one crucial mistake; eating half a pack of 'Haribos' in the first five minutes of the match! Fortunately the sugar rush carried me through the game.

So, on to next week and Plymouth. This is always a brutal and physical encounter and as I played under Graeme Dawe for three years, it's always a special match for me.

Without a doubt there will be some good banter in the front row on Saturday. I'd like to share some of the exchanges that happen in the front row with you, but it's a closed shop in there. You will have to use your imagination, sorry!

Next week, I have a little surprise for you, I'll be giving an insight into my life outside of rugby that will surprise some people and shock others but it's all good fun!

See you next week.

Grind on. Paves.
