Sanft makes Mounts Bay loan move

Doug Sanft
Sanft has not played a league match for the Pirates since 16 October

Cornish Pirates' Samoan international fly-half Doug Sanft has joined Mounts Bay on loan.

Sanft, 29, has seen little action since joining the Pirates in the summer from CRC Madrid.

He was publicly criticised by head coach Mark Hewitt following the Pirates' defeat to Rotherham in October in National League One.

Sanft has only made one appearance since then, playing for the Pirates in the Cornwall Super Cup last month.

"Doug Sanft has not had much game time so far this season and we are anxious for him to to prove his match fitness and to challenge for a starting place," said Pirates chief executive Rod Coward.

"We have therefore agreed that he will be joining Mounts Bay on loan as we believe this will give him the opportunity he needs."

Sanft, who was born in Wellington, has played in New Zealand's NPC competition.
