No surprises over Guernsey table tennis titles

Loveridge has qualified for the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympics

There were few surprises at the Guernsey Table Tennis Championships as the favourites in the main events lived up to their billings.

Gary Dodd and Alice Loveridge were the top seeds in the singles and duly went on to win their respective titles.

Dodd defeated second seed Oliver Langlois in straight games after overcoming a stiff challenge to take the first 12-10.

Langlois had some consolation in taking the men's doubles title.

Teamed with Matt Stubbington, they defeated Dodd and Phil Ogier in a thrilling seven-set match.

Loveridge met some tough resistance in the women's final.

After she took the first game against second seed Dawn Morgan, she lost a tight second 12-10 before the 15-year-old showed why she has qualified for the Youth Olympics as she took the next three games to retain her island crown.

Morgan and Kay Chivers were the victors in the women's doubles, beating Kate Stubbington and Sam Kershaw in straight games.
